The Medalist Club

The Medalist Club sits on 870 acres of preserved Florida landscape in Hobe Sound, home to one of the most exclusive golf courses in the country. Founded in 1995 by Greg Norman and designed in collaboration with architect Pete Dye, Medalist Golf Club has spent three decades as a quiet retreat for some of professional golf's biggest names. The surrounding residential community, Medalist Village, holds 119 custom estate homes behind 24-hour manned gated security, all built by Zuckerman Homes.

Medalist is one of the more misunderstood clubs in this market, because the golf club and the residential community are not the same membership. I am glad to walk buyers through exactly what comes with a home here, what does not, and how that compares to other private communities in the area.

Golf

Medalist Golf Club opened in 1995 as one of Greg Norman's first American design credits, co-designed with legendary architect Pete Dye. That same year, the course hosted a nationally televised Shell's Wonderful World of Golf match between Norman and Nick Price, then the two top-ranked players in the world. In 2015, the club brought in Bobby Weed, a protege of Pete Dye, to lengthen several holes and add a new set of back tees that became known as the "Tiger Tees," pushing the course to 7,571 yards with a slope of 155 and a course rating of 77.9, among the most demanding ratings of any course in the country. Medalist is currently ranked 10th among Golf Digest's Best Courses in Florida for 2025-'26, up from 12th the year prior. National golf media has reported the club's membership includes numerous PGA Tour and LPGA Tour professionals over the years, a big part of why Medalist carries an outsized reputation relative to its size.

Membership

Membership at Medalist works differently than most private clubs in this market, and it is worth understanding both layers. Medalist Golf Club itself is an invitation-only club with a genuinely limited roll. Candidates must be proposed by two current members and are only considered with strong support from the membership, and the club does not publish pricing publicly. Separately, homeowners in Medalist Village are required to join the Medalist Village Club and Spa, a distinct membership that includes a par-3 course designed by Greg Norman, Har-Tru tennis courts, a full-service spa, fitness center, and clubhouse dining. This village-level membership is far more accessible than the golf club itself, and it is the membership that comes standard with a home purchase here. Golf club membership is separate and not guaranteed with home ownership, even within the gates of Medalist Village.

Real Estate

Medalist Village consists of 119 custom estate homes built by Zuckerman Homes, generally ranging from roughly 2,500 to more than 6,000 square feet, set on quarter-acre to half-acre home sites with preserve, golf, or lake views. Current and recent sale prices in the community span from approximately $1.1 million to $4.65 million, with most homes trading in the $1.5 million to $3.5 million range. A smaller cluster of more compact homes, sometimes marketed as the Medalist Club Cottages, offers a lower entry point into the community for buyers who want the address without the largest floor plans.

Location & Schools

Medalist Village sits off US Highway 1 in Hobe Sound, in Martin County, between Jupiter and Stuart. The community is zoned to Hobe Sound Elementary School, Murray Middle School, and South Fork High School in the Martin County School District. The Pine School, a private pre-K through 12th grade option based in Hobe Sound, is also nearby and used by a number of families in the area.
